Hanwell Neighbourly Care Scheme

Chair's report 2016

I am very pleased to report that the Hanwell Neighbourly Care Scheme has had another rewarding and successful year. I am so very grateful to our Coordinator, committee members and volunteers for their dedication and generosity. Their thoughtfulness and enthusiasm are two of the main reasons for our success.

We continue to be confident that our Pop-Ins are a great way of keeping everyone active and independent for as long as possible and are always working on finding people who may be lonely and isolated and who would benefit from the friendship and fun we find there. I am also proud that we make a significant contribution to the wider community, including raising nearly £600 for MacMillan again this year.

We are most grateful for the continuing financial support from the William Hobbayne Charity and generous donations from the Medical Mission Sisters and Carols around the Clock. We raised over £1000 at the Hanwell Carnival and Ted Baverstock climbed Scafell Pike raising £600 for us. We are aware we need to raise more funds to continue our good work with you all and are investigating all avenues to succeed in this.

St Christopher’s Pop-In, led by Les Doble, has undergone significant changes and while I am glad to say it will continue to serve older people in Hanwell, it will no longer be under the Hanwell Neighbourly Care Scheme. We are so very grateful to Les for all he has done and continues to do to support the older people in Hanwell.

Les is stepping down from our committee as are Eric Tait, Judith Inder and Pam Turnbull. We owe them a huge vote of thanks for their efforts over the years.  Our new members to be are Janice Quayle, Doreen Bedborough and Shila Small. These ladies have already contributed to our work and have generously offered to do more.

I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to our valuable work this year and especially our Coordinator Fi, for continuing to be so passionate about our work and being unflagging in putting it into action.  I am looking forward to another challenging and successful year in 2017.
